This article explains how money is calculated, how funds move, and what happens in special scenarios when hosting a raffle on Raffall.
Who pays whom
Entrants always pay Raffall directly when purchasing tickets.
- Raffall securely holds all funds while the raffle runs
- Entrants never pay the host directly
This allows Raffall to protect entrants and ensure prizes are delivered before funds are released.
How host earnings are calculated
Total ticket revenue
- The full amount paid by entrants
Host commission
- Basic hosts: 85% of ticket revenue
- Premium and Pro hosts: 90% of ticket revenue
This amount is referred to as gross host revenue.
Affiliate commission (host-controlled)
- Hosts decide whether to enable affiliate commission
- This allows affiliates to help promote the raffle and sell tickets
- If enabled, commission is deducted from gross host revenue
- If not enabled, no affiliate commission applies
Net host revenue
- The amount remaining after affiliate commission
Charity donation (host-controlled)
- Hosts decide whether to donate a percentage of their earnings to charity
- Donations are never automatic
- If enabled, donations are calculated from net host revenue
- If not enabled, no donation is made
Final host balance
- The remaining amount is the host’s final balance
Example: standard raffle calculation
Scenario
- Premium host (90% commission)
- 100 tickets sold at £1
Calculation
- £100 total ticket revenue
- £90 gross host revenue
- £10 affiliate commission
- £80 net host revenue
- 10% charity donation = £8
- £72 paid to the host
When and how hosts are paid
Hosts are not paid immediately when a raffle ends.
Funds are released only after the prize has been delivered and confirmed.
- A winner is selected independently
- The host supplies or arranges the prize
- The winner confirms receipt of the prize
- Raffall pays the host
This payment represents Raffall purchasing the prize from the host.
How affiliates and charities are paid
Affiliates (host-controlled)
- Hosts choose whether to enable affiliate commission
- If enabled, affiliates are paid directly by Raffall
- Affiliates are paid even if a host fails to deliver the prize
Charities (host-controlled)
- Hosts choose whether to donate to a charity
- If enabled, Raffall donates directly to the selected charity
- Donations are calculated from net host revenue
Hosts never need to manage or send affiliate or charity payments themselves.
What happens if the prize is not awarded
If a host fails to deliver the prize, Raffall’s Raffle Guarantee applies.
- The winners receive a cash compensation equal to 75% of total ticket revenue
- Affiliate commission is still paid in full
- Net host revenue becomes £0
- Any charity donation is calculated on £0 and equals £0
- The host receives no payout
No prize delivered means no payment to the host.
Minimum ticket targets (Pro hosts only)
Only Pro hosts can set a minimum ticket target.
If the minimum ticket target is not met:
- 50% of total ticket revenue is paid to the winner as cash
- Raffall’s commission remains unchanged
- The remaining revenue is used to calculate host earnings
Example
- £100 total ticket revenue
- £50 paid to the winner
- £10 Raffall commission
- £40 gross host revenue
- £10 affiliate commission
- £30 net host revenue
- 10% charity donation = £3
- £27 paid to the host
Key things to remember
- Entrants always pay Raffall, not the host
- Affiliate commission is host-controlled
- Charity donations are host-controlled
- Hosts are only paid after prize delivery is confirmed
- Affiliates are paid even if a host fails to deliver a prize
- Only Pro hosts can set minimum ticket targets
